Vijay Chandru is an alumnus of BITS Pilani where he trained in Electrical Engineering and went on to get a doctorate from MIT in USA. Vijay is an academic and an entrepreneur who was named in the 50  Pioneers  of  Change  by  India  Today  in  2008.  He  is  an  elected  fellow  of  the  Indian  National Academies of Science and Engineering. He holds adjunct faculty appointments at the International Centre for Theoretical Studies (TIFR) and the National Institute for Advanced Studies in Bangalore.  
As  an  inventor  and  co-founder  of  the  open  source  handheld  Simputer  Project,  and  the  leading computational biology company Strand  Life Sciences, Vijay has been recognized as a Technology Pioneer  by  the  World  Economic  Forum.  He  currently  serves  as  Chairman  &  CEO  of  Strand  LS.  
Vijay is the president of ABLE (the apex body of Indian biotechnology industry), an honorary elected post for a 3-year term 2009-2012. He was recently appointed to the “High Panel on Science and Technology for Development” to advise UNESCO in identifying emerging trends in international science and engineering. Vijay also serves on the Global Advisory Board of the MIT Enterprise  Forum,  an  international  forum  for technology  entrepreneurship  managed  by  the Technology Review magazine at MIT.
