Professor Sübidey TOGAN

Dr. Togan, born on 21 st of December, 1943 in Istanbul, graduated from the Department of Economics at Middle East Technical University in Ankara, Turkey, in 1967. Thereafter he went to Johns Hopkins University in Baltimore, U.S.A. on a Fulbright fellowship, and received his Ph.D. degree in Economics from the same University in 1972. He has served as an assistant professor of economics at Texas A&M University, Middle East Technical University in Ankara, and at Clarkson University in New-York, U.S.A. During the period 1981-1982 he was a research fellow at Kiel Institute of World Economics at the University of Kiel in Germany. He became Professor of Economics in 1986. He has been the Dean of the Faculty of Economics, Social and Administrative Sciences at Bilkent University during 1987-1997. He is professor of economics and Director of the "Centre for International Economics" at Bilkent University.

Dr. Togan has various publications in such journals as the Journal of International Economics, European Economic Review, Schweitzerische Zeitschrift fur Volkswirtschaft und Statistik, European Review of Agricultural Economics, Pakistan Development Review, Journal of Policy Modelling, Applied Economics, Weltwirtschaftliches Archiv, Journal of Economic Integration, and The World Economy. His recent work include "Foreign Trade Regime and Trade Liberalization in Turkey during the 1980's" published in 1994 by Avebury, "The Economy of Turkey since Liberalization" published in 1996 by Macmillan Press Ltd (co-editor V. N. Balasubramanyam), "Turkey and Central and Eastern European Countries in Transition: Towards Membership of the EU" published by Palgrave Macmillan Ltd. in 2001 (co-editor V. N. Balasubramanyam), "Turkey: Economic Reform and Accession to the European Union" published by the World Bank and Centre for Economic Policy Research (CEPR) in 2005 (co-editor Bernard Hoekman), and "Macroeconomic Policies for EU Accession" published by Edward Elgar Publishing in 2007 (co-editors E. Başçi ve J. von Hagen). His area of interest is International Economics.
