THE PALACE OF THE HUNGARIAN ACADEMY OF SCIENCES

The Palace of the Hungarian Academy of Sciences

Plenary and Thematic Sessions of World Science will take place in the
Palace of the Hungarian Academy of Sciences on 4-6 November 2015

Located on the eastern bank of the Danube, the Palace of the Hungarian Academy of Sciences was one of the first Budapest edifices in Neo-Renaissance style yet it turned out to be the most mature and valuable example of its sort in Budapest. This harmonious building, richly ornamented both inside and outside has always been a distinctive feature of the cityscape. The most accentuated external feature of the building is its main facade. It is characterised by the bold architectural design of its projection containing the two-storeyed Ceremonial Hall, which treats the two storeys as a single unit. Inaugurated in 1865, making it 150 years old this year.

THE HOUSE OF PARLIAMENT

The House of Parliament

The events of World Science Forum will take place in the Building of the Hungarian Parliament on 7 November.

As the millennial celebrations of 1896 approached, the nation's demand for representation channelled the conception of a unique Parliament building. The Palace of Westminster in part inspired its design, but a well-known Hungarian architect, Imre Steindl, laid out the plans in their entirety. The building stretches 268 meters in its length, along the Danube embankment. Ornamented with white neo-gothic turrets and arches, it forms the most outstanding landmark of the Pest side horizon. Statues of Hungarian monarchs and military commanders decorate the outer walls. The unique interior design includes huge halls, over 12,5 miles of corridors, a 96-meter high central dome, and 691 rooms.
