TUNDISI, José Galizia

President, International Institute of Ecology
José Galizia Tundisi graduated
in Natural History on the University of São Paulo (1962), master's degree in
Oceanography at the University of Southampton (1966) and Ph.D. in Biological
Sciences (Botany) from the University of São Paulo (1969). He is currently
retired professor from the University of São Paulo and operates in graduate of
the Federal University of São Carlos guiding teachers and doctors. Prof.
Galizia Tundisi is president of the International Institute of Ecology and
Environmental Management and a researcher at the International Institute of
Ecology. He is a visiting professor at the Institute of Advanced Studies. He is
also a professor at the University Feevale acting in the course on the postgraduate in Environmental Quality. Prof. Tundisi is a
member of the Brazilian Academy of Sciences and specialized in Ecology,
Limnology with emphasis in Management of Aquatic Ecosystems Recovery. He served
as a consultant in 40 countries in the areas of limnology, water resources
management, restoration of lakes and reservoirs and planning and optimizing
multiple uses of dams. Currently directs international program global training
water managers for the IAP (InterAcademy Pannel-representing 100 Academies of
Sciences). He is a consultant on various projects in Water Resources Management
in charge of the International Institute of Ecology and Environmental
Management. Has published 30 books and one book in press, was president of CNPq
- Brazil (1995-1999) and president of the Millennium Institute project. Has
published 320 scientific papers and awards in Brazil abroad. Has supervised 40
masters and 35 doctors in the fields of Ecology, Limnology, Oceanography, Water
Resources Management and Environmental Management. He was president of CNPq 1995 to 1999 and
advisor to the Minister of Science and Technology Ronaldo Sandenberg 1999 to
2001. He was president of the Millennium Institute Program of the Ministry of
Science and Technology. In 1999 he founded the Municipal Science and Technology
and Economic Development in São Carlos.
