Knowledge-based economy: vision, values and strategy

Dr. Tero Ojanperä
Senior Vice President, Nokia, Finland

Abstract

The knowledge-based economy is driven by the high technology industry. The key competitive advantage of a high technology company is based on knowledge that can be converted into sustainable innovations. By sustainable innovations we mean a successful exploitation of new ideas and how to achieve business success through employing a process of continuous innovation. How and what people learn and the way that they and the organisations they work for apply that knowledge will become an increasingly powerful asset in the business world of the future. As knowledge is usually acquired as a result of a long and costly process, each company needs to define and develop this process starting from the fundamentals of the company, i.e. the vision, values and strategy. These fundamentals create a framework for knowledge acquisition and thus are the basis for innovation within a company. This presentation will look into vision, values and strategy and how these are reflected in the knowledge cultivation process at Nokia.
