Jan Uddenfeldt

Jan Uddenfeldt is the Chief Technology Officer and Senior Vice President for Ericsson since 1998. He is responsible for Ericsson´s worldwide activities in Research and Development in 15 countries. Dr Uddenfeldt chairs the Ericsson Technology Boards, ensuring a common architecture and seamless services across the company and with alliance partners worldwide.

Dr Uddenfeldt has been actively involved in the development of both 2nd generation wireless technologies and 3rd generation WCDMA and EDGE. He has more than 20 independent patents in the area of digital communication.

 

Biography

Dr Jan Uddenfeldt (born 1950) has been with Ericsson since 1978, after having received a M.Sc. in Electrical Engineering and a Ph.D. in Teletransmission theory at the Royal Institute of Technology in Stockholm. He was also adjunct Professor at the Royal Institute of Technology in the mid-1980´s and holds an honorary Doctor's degree from the Technical Faculty, University of Lund.

In 1985, Dr Uddenfeldt became head of the Research Department at Ericsson Radio Systems, and in 1990 he became Vice President of Research and Development at Ericsson Radio Systems, covering worldwide responsibility for the research and development of Ericsson´s cellular radio products. Since 1989 he is a member of the Royal Academy of Engineering Sciences (IVA).

 

Prizes

Dr Jan Uddenfeldt has received several prestigious awards for his contribution to the cellular technology; the Edward Rhein Prize for the innovation of GSM in 1997, and, recently, the prestigious KTH Prize, by the Royal Institute of Technology in Stockholm.
